An Appeal for Justice

Appeal to the League of Nations By Haile Selassie June 1936 "I, Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia, am here today to claim that justice which is due to my people, and the assistance promised to it eight months ago when fifty nations asserted that aggression had been committed in violation of international treaties.  There is no precedent for a Head of State himself speaking in this assembly.  But there is also no precedent for a people being a victim of such injustice and being at present threatened by abandonment to an aggressor.  Also, there has never before been an example of any Government proceeding to the systematic extermination of a nation by barbarous means, in violation of the most solemn promises made by the nations of the earth that there should not be used against innocent human beings the terrible poison of harmful gases.  It is to defend a people struggling for its age-old independence that the head of the Ethiopian Empire has come to Gene...

Is Knowledge Beneficial?

Ephesians 1:18-19 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe according to the working of his mighty power, To understand that all believers are called upon to increase their knowledge of God as he reveals himself is to understand the depth of God’s promise of glory and to personally know the power of the risen Christ.   It has been stated and believed by many educators even these days that 'ignorance is bliss'.  Actually meaning that,  if one is unaware of an unpleasant fact or situation one cannot be troubled by it.  As a result, conferring that what one doesn't know won't hurt, has also been misconstrued into a false truism.  Nonetheless, without fail a  lack of understanding will often leave  us  prey to  being easily misled .  Co...

Divine Justice

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? These verses seem to contain the substance of Balak's consultation with Balaam how to obtain the favour of Israel's God.  A deep conviction of guilt and wrath will put men upon careful inquiries after peace and pardon, and then there begins to be some ground for hope of them.  In line with God being pleased with us, our care must be for an interest in the atonement of Christ, and that the sin by which we displease him may be taken away.  What will be a satisfaction to God's justice?  In whose name must we come, as we have nothing to plead as our own?  In what righteousness shall we appear before him?  The proposal betrays ignorance, though they show zeal.  They offer that which is very rich and costly.   Those who are fully convinced of sin, and of their misery and danger by re...

Is Satan the Father of all Liars?

John 8:43-44 Why do you not understand my speech?  Even because you cannot hear my word. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires.  He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Satan prompts men to excesses by which they murder themselves and others, while what he puts into the mind tends to ruin men's lives.  He is the great promoter of falsehood of every kind.  He is a liar, all his temptations are carried on by his calling evil good, and good evil, and promising freedom in sin.  He is the author of all lies; whom liars resemble and obey, with whom all liars shall have their portion for ever. The special lusts of the devil are spiritual wickedness, the lusts of the mind, and corrupt reasonings, pride and envy, wrath and malice, enmity to good, and enticing others to ev...

The Great Apostasy

The Great Apostasy is a term used by some religious groups to describe the perceived fallen state of traditional Christianity, especially the Roman Catholic Church because they claim it allowed traditional Greco-Roman culture, i.e. Greco-Roman mysteries, deities of solar monism such as Mithras and Sol Invictus, pagan.  Yet there also many so-called follows of Christ with Freemasonry intertwined into their beliefs and practices, who continue to mislead many today. How does the Bible define apostasy?  What is it exactly so we can know to identify it?  The word itself is from the Greek word “apostasia” and is very much like renouncing or disassociating oneself from a particular religion or certain religious beliefs.  It is similar to a rejection of beliefs that were once held and accepting different beliefs and might even be a renunciation of the beliefs that were previously held.  For example, is someone converts to another religion, they reject or turn away ...

What Is Corporate Manslaughter?

The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 is a landmark in law.  For the first time, companies and organisations can be found guilty of corporate manslaughter as a result of serious management failures resulting in a gross breach of a duty of care. Prior to 6 April 2008, it was possible for a corporate entity, such as a company, to be prosecuted for a wide range of criminal offences, including the common law offence of gross negligence manslaughter.  However, in order for the company to be guilty of the offence, it was also necessary for a senior individual who could be said to embody the company (also known as a 'controlling mind') to be guilty of the offence.  This was known as the identification principle. On the 6 April 2008, the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 (CMCHA) came into force throughout the UK.  In England and Wales and Northern Ireland, the new offence is called corporate manslaughter, and in Scotland, it...

The Importance of History

History is really important because it helps us to understand why we live the way we are living and why we are where we are as a species and country.   Studying history allows learning from the mistakes of our ancestors so we do not do the same things they did and work towards reaching a better place.   Historians are often asked, what is the use or relevance of studying History?  Why on earth does it matter what happened such a long time ago?  The answer is that History is inescapable.  It studies the past and the legacies of the past in the present.  Far from being a 'dead' subject, it connects things through time and encourages its students to take a long view of such connections. All people and peoples are living histories.  To take a few obvious examples, communities speak languages that are inherited from the past.  They live in societies with complex cultures, traditions and religions that have not been created on the spur of the...

Avoid Vexatious People

2 Timothy 3:1-17 Understand that the last days will be dangerous times.  People will be selfish and love money. They will be the kind of people who brag and who are proud.  They will slander others, and they will be disobedient to their parents.  They will be ungrateful, unholy,  unloving, contrary, and critical.  They will be without self-control and brutal, and they won’t love what is good.  They will be people who are disloyal, reckless, and conceited.  They will love pleasure instead of loving God.  They will look like they are religious but deny God’s power.  Avoid people like this.  Some will slither into households and control immature women who are burdened with sins and driven by all kinds of desires.  These women are always learning, but they can never arrive at an understanding of the truth. These people oppose the truth in the same way that Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses.  Their minds are corrupt and th...

Is Love of Neighbour Optional?

Mark 12:26-31 26.  Now about the dead rising - have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him,  'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob'? 27.  He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.  You are badly mistaken!"   28.  One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating.  Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" 29.  "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this:  Hear, O Isreal:  The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30.  Love the Lord our God with all your heart and with all your soul [heart] and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31.  The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’  There is no commandment greater than these.”  Therefore, in God's eyes, there is no them and us, as would be quite apparent if we have ...

A Sycophantic Crony

Psalms 101:7  No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.   A close so-called friend behaving in an obsequious manner in order to gain an advantage, who is obedient or attentive to an excessive or servile degree,  may not be useful in the short or long term. Those who are in public stations are not thereby excused from care in governing their families.  They are to be concerned to set a good example of ruling their own houses well. Whenever a man has a house of his own, let him seek to have God to dwell with him and those may expect his presence, who walk with a perfect heart, in a perfect way.   Here David resolves to practice no evil himself.  He further resolves not to keep bad servants, nor to employ those about him that are wicked.  He will not admit them into his family, lest they spread the infection of sin.  A froward heart, one that delights to be cross and p...

Repentance

Matthew 4:12-17 12.   Now when Yahushua had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; 13.  And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:  14. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,  15. The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;  16.  The people which in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.  17. From that time Yahushua began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand Repentance is the action of repenting, due to sincere regret or remorse, "each person who turns to Yahuwah in genuine repentance and faith will be saved".  On the other hand, ' Mea Culpa'  which means "through my fault" in Latin, comes from a ritualistic prayer of confession use...
